Our Investment in the Most Innovative Technology
We’re committed to providing you with the highest quality care, which is why we invest in the latest, most advanced technology. Our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs and hybrid operating room help our doctors perform surgeries with greater precision and safety. Our investments in technology ensure that the best in medicine is available right here in your community.
General Cardiology
Our general cardiology team works closely with patients to identify risks and signs of coronary artery disease, and take the steps necessary to manage symptoms and minimize risks. Understanding personal and family health history is important, as our cardiology team works to develop a personalized plan of care for each patient.
In accordance with guidelines from the American College of Cardiology, some of the most common conditions our clinicians diagnose and treat include:
- Chest pain
- Lipid disorders
- Congestive heart failure
- Coronary artery disease
- Atrial fibrillation
- Syncope
- Hypertension
- Hyperlipidemia
- Arrhythmias
Interventional Cardiology Services
Beebe’s board-certified interventional cardiologists diagnose and treat cardiac patients who may need catheter-based interventions for heart disease and heart-related illnesses. The latest, most advanced surgical procedures are performed in our interventional cardiology labs, hybrid operating room, and technology-packed surgical suites. We offer:
- Coronary Catheterization: In many cases, a cardiologist will recommend that a patient undergo coronary catheterization, a tool that is helpful is confirming preliminary diagnoses. Using local anesthesia and medication to moderately sedate the patient, doctors insert a tiny catheter through veins or arteries directly into the chambers of the heart. Then, a special dye is injecting through the tube, into the heart and vital surrounding blood vessels. The dye allows valve activity, blood flow, and any blockages to become visible, and guide decisions regarding the most appropriate treatment options for patients.
- TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) & Sentinel Device: Non-surgical aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis, combined with stroke prevention technology.
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Therapy: Temporary heart support for patients with heart failure or low cardiac output.
- Impella Heart Pump: Advanced heart pump device for cardiogenic shock and complex heart procedures like stenting and angioplasty.
- MultiPoint Pacing: Cardiac resynchronization therapy for heart failure patients with irregular heart rhythms.
- Atherectomy Procedure: Minimally invasive plaque removal to restore blood flow in blocked arteries.
- Leadless Pacemaker Implantation: Wireless pacemaker for bradycardia (slow heart rate), implanted without chest incision.
Structural Heart Treatments
Beebe’s Structural Heart Program was created to address conditions that impact the anatomy of the heart, and its functionality. Our specialists diagnose and treat both congenital heart diseases (a result of the heart not developing properly before birth) as well as conditions that develop and progress and later stages in life, as a result of illness, aging, or other medical conditions. Beebe has invested in some of the latest, most advanced technologies, to care for patients with structural heart conditions, including:
- Left Atrial Appendage Closure (Watchman® & Amulet®): Stroke prevention for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who cannot take blood thinners long-term.
- MitraClip® Procedure: Minimally invasive treatment for mitral valve regurgitation, an alternative to open-heart surgery.

Living Proof: Heart Health Journeys
Meet Carol
For more than five years, respiratory distress was a key theme in Carol’s life. She had trouble breathing, walking short distances, and doing everyday activities. At one point, Carol felt so badly that she went one of Beebe’s walk-in care clinics with hopes of being prescribed medication that might help her feel better. Instead, she left that clinic in an ambulance. “The nurse took my vitals and then quickly left the room,” recalls Carol. “She came back with oxygen, a doctor, and the message that I needed to get to the hospital immediately.” En route to the Emergency Department in an ambulance, Carol lost consciousness, and didn’t wake up for over a week. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, a chronic heart condition, and health issues related to Carol’s weight were threatening her life. She needed to make some lifestyle changes, quickly, if she wanted to survive. And, she did.

Meet Rich
Rich Hoffheins is not the sort to sit around. During his career in Washington, D.C., Rich not only worked full time for the federal government, he also performed with the Washington National Opera, played the French horn, and was an avid jogger. “I’ve always had two or three jobs, ever since high school,” Rich said. “I am the sort that likes to be busy and keep moving.” Rich was able to retire early, and he moved to Bethany Beach where he continued to jog regularly. He also enjoys taking his golden doodle, Max, for walks on the boardwalk and around town. As the COVID-19 pandemic hit and Rich’s 69th birthday loomed, he started to feel depressed. “Since 1985, I have dreaded turning 69 because my Dad died of a massive coronary event at 69. And his brother also died of a heart attack,” Rich said. “For years, I have been seeing a cardiologist because of family history, and I have heard my doctor talk about my aortic stenosis as it progressed from mild to moderate, and last year, to severe. “I knew it was an issue when I noticed I wasn’t moving as easily as I once was. I was fatigued. And then, when the depression was coming on, I knew it was time to take action.”
